RE: Campground Camper, I dont know how you do it

Boondockers, I don`t know how you do it!
No electric, water or sewer. no planned activities for the kids. no paved roads for the training wheel crowd. no close neighbors to talk with.
See there is always 2 sides to everything. to each his own. and no! I don`t have anything against boondocking. just showing the different takes on this subject.
Touché, :D

Campground Camper, I dont know how you do it

We just got back from our once a year camp with my immediate family. My parents like the convenience of a National Park campground in Arizona called Christopher Creek. For a campground it is nice, but I do not know how folks camp in campgrounds!! The cars driving in and out, the neighbors, the stinky bathrooms, the lights out at 10pm, noise ending at 9:30, and to topper, the diesel truck that shows up Sunday morning to deliver the wood to the camp host for the campers to buy.
Now, I really understand why I only boondock, except the once a year campground trip for the family reunion.

RE: New to pop up camping-2008 Starcraft 36RT

Your going to love the 36RT. We have had ours for over a year and wouldn't trade it for anything. Plenty of space for gear and atvs. I just wish it had a black tank.

RE: 13RT Mods - Goin' In...

I look forward to next year and installing dual six-volt batteries (along with a generator) on a custom rear bumper carrier.
Definitely keep us updated on these MODs. I am interested in a rear carrier MOD, but not sure where to start.

RE: Am I the only one?

... but we sure cut back on the distances we are willing to travel.
Trips this summer will be close to home. Thankfully, close to home for me includes some spectacular National forests, State Parks and National Parks.
Ron
Unfortunately Arizona in the summer, anything close is desert camping and extreme heat during day (highs 110's) and night (lows 80's and 90's). Its about a 300 mile round trip to get to the mountains to find forest and cool weather.
Just like everyone has said, time with the family is priceless and sitting by the pool in the back yard is costless. There are reasons for budgets and staying in them, good lesson to teach the kids as well.
Hope everyone enjoys their outings, we will for our 3.

Am I the only one?

We have had to greatly decrease our planned camping trips this summer due to the current increase in gas and food prices. We figure our normal $200 camping trip is now around $400. (This is for food, fuel and supplies.) We had in our vacation budget about $1200 for 18 nights of camping over the summer. Now for that same amount of money I am down to one 3 day weekend a month. :(
Hopefully others get to have the fun, maybe next year or come on winter, desert camping is really close and nice at 60 degrees!!

RE: tv antenna for pop up

I actually use an older DirectTV dish. I have DirectTV setup through my cell phone so that when I call, if there is service, I am able to get the support for direction and settings. I can change the direction of the of the dish to get the best reception.

RE: starcraft opinions

I have had 2 Starcrafts, a '97 Galaxy Classic and '06 36RT. I liked them both and had zero issues with either one. I would highly recommend. I haven't seen the 2107, but if it is like the ones I have had, I wouldn't hesitate in purchasing.

RE: Tow with water or not.

We only boondock so I always leave with a full tank 42 gallons, in addition to at least 20 gallons in containers in the truck.

RE: your tv and milage

I would be happy with any of the mileage listed above. See signature for TV and camper. Luckily my TV is only used for towing, I dont have to drive it for any other purpose. With that said, I get 7 mpg when towing uphill and then if you count the down hill its about an overall of 9 mpg. Of course, I am running at 70-75 up hill or down hill and running a 6 inch lift with 35" BFG's on the TV to level it up with my 36RT. I am sure I would get better if I wasnt such a lead foot!!!!

RE: Photo Thread - Post Your PUP Pics Here

We headed out over the weekend up to the cool pines of Arizona. While my wife baked in 105 degree temps, the boys and I watched the temps dip into the low 30's. So refreshing, cant wait for two more weeks when i get to go again.

RE: 2006 Starcraft 36RT

Hey everyone,
Currently, we do not have toys to haul (although this is a near future purchase), we are interested in the 36RT because of the cargo space in front (coolers, camping gear, etc), as well as what the camper has to offer. I am interested in hearing about pros/cons to this camper, and any additional info you could provide.
We will be towing it with a 2006 Jeep Commander (6500 lb towing capacity).
Great choice in PUP, I have this exact camper and we love it. In my signiture you can click the links and take a look at the MODs and other stuff about it.
I would be worried about using the Jeep as a TV. When fully loaded, the tongue weight on ours is about 1400 lbs. 400 tongue, 1000 quads. Initially, it maybe ok but once the toys start coming, you'll need to upgrade. I haul mine with a 3/4 ton Chevy truck.
I am sure you'll love the choice.

RE: LENGTH OF POP ?

Yeah, I would need a 36 foot long garage if I was going to fit my PUP in and open it. Its in my plans to have one bay of my future garage be long enough to do that.
JCH
We are in the same boat, 36 foot long garage with 9 foot ceilings. Heck, if my garage was that size, put in an AC, flat screen and fridge, and I found my new living quarters!!! :)

RE: UPDATED: Reflectix alternatives?

Great write up. How do you well do you think this MOD works in the desert or extremely hot weather. Here in Arizona during the summer most camping spots have tempatures in the high 90's if not in the 100's. Any suggestion on MODs for keeping cool?

RE: E4 vs 36RT

I have a 36RT and I actually stopped by a dealer to look at the E4 last friday. They seem very similiar in everyway that i could see. Now I am comparing between a 2006 36RT and a 2008 E4, so keep that in mind.
Things I like about the E4:
Rails on side of deck used for ramps.
Bed supports are one piece and snap into the bottom of bunk
Extra seating in the living area, i really like the seating.
Things I dont like about the E4:
Deck on the E4 is longer due to the placement of the propane tanks.
Overall style and color, dont like the industrial inside look.
Given these items, I still wouldnt trade-in or sell my 36RT. We love it. It fits our family perfect and I got it for a killer price :).
Good luck on your decision, either way, I dont think you could go wrong.
